It's time for Voxer!

Hi Everyone,

I am going to try the site Voxer in some of my classes.  I think you will really like it!

Voxer combines the power of live voice with text and photo sharing.

With Voxer you can talk, send texts and photos instantly - to one person or an entire group.

Listen live or listen later.  Listen "live" while someone is speaking and respond right away or listen later when it's convenient.

At school, you may use Voxer on the chromebooks, but at home you can use it with your cell phones. It's very easy and I know it will be helpful to you!

First you need to log on to Voxer by using this site.  Then, you should set up a Voxer chat group with your unit group (including me).  Next, spread out all over the school and start chatting to see how it works!

Your Voxer study group should help to strengthen your unit group and give you another resource to use if you have any questions about what we are doing in class.

Hope you enjoy!

Take care, Mrs. Roberti

Khan Academy

Hi Everyone,

This year I am using Khan Academy in all of my classes.  The students will be signing up and creating an account.  Then they will be working on a "mission" that is designed especially for them using the great resource Khan Academy.  Students will have the entire quarter to complete their mission.  So, when they don't have a lot of school work to do, or they are itching to do some math :-), please encourage them to go on Khan Academy and get some of there mission done!

Here is a video and a little more information about the program:
Every learner is different and has different learning needs - that’s where Khan Academy comes in. They are a nonprofit on a mission to provide a free world-class education for anyone, anywhereTo accomplish this, they've created a learning experience where students can use practice exercises and learn from instructional videos across a wide range of subjects.  In particular, students can practice all of K-12 math with their Common Core standards-aligned materials.  When students need help with a specific skill, they can search for it on their site to find relevant video explanations or exercises.  Think of it as a free tutor available to students 24/7!  Their missions are a personalized math experiences through specific subjects or grade-levels.Missions are adaptive to students' needs by recommending new skills on their dashboards based on their math history on Khan Academy.
Students can use missions to:
  • learn at their own pace,
  • master skills that are challenging and appropriate for their level or reinforce prior skills,
  • use hints and videos immediately when they need help, and
  • earn points, badges, and unlock fun avatars as an added motivation
Both students and teachers have access to dashboards, where they can view learning progress on Khan Academy. Students can track their own progress, and teachers can see how their students are doing.

I am really excited to be adding these great Khan Academy missions to my classroom this year and I know they will help my students to be a Champion.

Take care,
Mrs. Roberti

Twitter Chat Friday!

Hi Everyone,

It's the end of the week and everyone's favorite day.  That's right, it's Friday!  I am a big fan of special things happening on Fridays.  So this year, I am going to introduce Twitter Chat Friday with a few of my classes :-)

The first thing you need to do is to create a SCHOOL twitter account.  I wouldn't recommend  using your personal account for this.

Then, you are going to respond to the prompt that I give you in a tweet (remember - tweets can only be 140 characters, so you have to be brief!).  Be sure to put our hashtag  #robertimath with your tweet so that your comments can be linked and viewed by all of us.  You will be tweeting your own ideas and replying/commenting about other people's tweets as well.

I think that tweetchat.com is a great way to follow the chat as it happens.

First chat is tomorrow so we will see how it goes!

Take care,
Mrs. Roberti
